Spring Time at the Cottage

I am very privileged to be staying in an old cottage in Essex. My landlady is a gardener and her garden is looking beautiful now that Spring has sprung. The lockdown due to the Covid 19 Corona Virus has been made all the more bearable living out here with the many different spaces around the garden for sitting and watching the birds, writing, reading or just staring. This last week we've had blue-sky spring weather and I took the opportunity on Easter Saturday to take my camera out and photograph the flowers in the bright sun.

The Crab-apple tree that stands right outside my window hums with the excitement of the coming summer as bees and wasps flit from flower to flower.

Tulips and other large-petalled flowers are scattered around the garden inviting insects to feed, somewhat in vain.

This flower seemed to have it right. There were beetles rolling in pollen.

White blossoms burst from the branches, shining in the sun and creating another perfect bar for the bees, butterflies and wasps.

Daffodils still hang about, dancing in the wind and trying to catch the best of the sun.

And then there are those special flowers. The ones you have to search a little to find, hidden amidst the grasses, or in the shade of a tree, too shy and delicate to announce themselves to the world like the proud tulips and daffodils.

There's a tree that defies convention. It doesn't care what all the other trees do. If it wants to twirl and spin then it won't let anyone stop it.

And then there's the honourable mentions. The plants that just keep going. That don't care about bright colours and seasons.

Amidst it all, a little Tammy searches every hole daily, in the hopes that one day she will catch her rabbit.

A gardener's work is never done. There are always flowers to plant, bushes to prune and new seedlings to nurture.
